Are lip fillers painful?

Are lip fillers painful? This is the question many people ask themselves before deciding to have a procedure. Even though nature has given each of us unique features, there are some people who are uncomfortable with the flaws in their appearance. Fortunately, modern cosmetology can correct many flaws even without surgery. Sensual and expressive lips for many are the standard of beauty. Achieving the desired result is possible through the use of various injection methods. And many are interested in the first place, whether it hurts to increase the lips.

How painful is lip augmentation?

One of the modern injection methods of lip augmentation is contouring. The procedure is characterized by a wide variety of injections. Various preparations based on hyaluronic acid are injected dermally, intraepidermally, into the subcutaneous fatty tissue, submuscularly, etc.

Different injection techniques are used – linear, fan, individual needle techniques, etc. The lips are the part of the body with the largest number of nerve endings. Of course, the introduction of drugs to a fairly large depth and in large quantities (1-10 ml) causes painful sensations. Various types of anesthesia are used to reduce or eliminate them.

  • Applicative: on the intended areas of needle insertion, the drug is applied in the form of gel, cream, sometimes a solution. To accelerate and increase the depth of penetration, an occlusive dressing is used. Advantages of the method – it is safe, does not require special preparation, quickly restores sensitivity. Disadvantages – it does not completely block the pain sensitivity, requires more time (15-45 minutes), there may be local reactions to the drug.
  • Infiltration: layer-by-layer impregnation of tissues with an anesthetic solution. Advantages – the effect comes quickly, it relieves pain well, disadvantages – it is quite painful, the effect lasts longer than the procedure.
  • Conduction: reversible blockade of nerve impulse transmission along individual trunks. This type of local anesthesia has the same disadvantages as the infiltration, and also requires special training and a high level of skill of the specialist.

How many days and how intensely the lips will hurt after augmentation depends on the depth of the punctures, the amount of filler injected, the individual sensitivity. Sometimes the teeth are also involved, because the common channels of innervation may be affected. To accelerate healing and avoid side effects in the form of inflammation, the injection area must be treated with antiseptic.
